Friends families and loved ones of our sailors, quite naturally, always care and bare the heaviest burden, but when miles away from home, for many months, or facing that ultimate challenge, to know that "your" public is behind you too makes such a difference!
BWA members and friends extend that care and support ensuring good hospitality, good company and a ready friendship to our sailors where ever they may be.
Show your support and join in the fun!
Welcome & Social Events
Whether its participating in a quayside welcome, a formal mess dinner, a summer garden party, ten pin bowling, organising a charity event, going to a sports match or a concert, the important thing is that we all enjoy time together with our sailors. BWA Members often act as hosts or just enjoy a social evening together with "their"ships sailors.
The BWA fascilitates a range of sports matches to promote community engagement and raise awareness of the local warship. In the matches sides from the ship play local teams/clubs.
We have seen some fantastic rugby, soccer talent of premiership standards, masterly golf and some very dazzling netball! All played for in high spirit, but not without that competitive edge.
Through our partner "The Cyril Watts Foundation" a Challenge Cup or Trophy is supplied for each match, to promote the creation of a recurring annual fixture. There's nothing like the prospect of some "silverware" to increase the competition and bring that touchline support alive.
When its time to part, with the prospect of a long deployment ahead, our BWA organised Pre-Deployment Suppers are wonderful ocassions!
The nice things is that these Suppers are run on a "sponsor a sailor" basis, so you pay for the sailor supper who is sat next to you. The PDS is a 50:50 mix of ships company, all ranks, and BWA members, friends and also representatives from a ships other affiliate organisations. At the PDS we are all united together, with one aim, to have a great evening and to say those fond farewells!
It would be great to have you join in!
